Services Update 05/27/2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Springdale UMC,

Greeting in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ,

I hope this letter finds you well and healthy. This has been a long period since we have worshiped together and when we do come together it will still be a different mood than what we were used to. But still being together in God’s house is something that we have all missed.

In case you are unaware, or do not follow Facebook, we have been held drive-in church in the church parking lot for the past three weeks and will have it again Sunday, May 31st. You do not have to get out of your car and the message and music will be broadcast over your car radio (station 90.1FM). We have been having a great time doing this and hope that you will join us this Sunday May 31st as we celebrate Pentecost Sunday.

Services Returning to the Sanctuary, Sunday, June 7th

There was a meeting and it was decided that there are enough people interested in attending a worship service at this time. We will return to worshiping in the church on June 7th at 9:30 am. Like I said there will be some differences that we will have to do for a while in order to keep legal.

  • We will continue to broadcast via FM radio for a while when we start meeting in the sanctuary.  If you are not ready to come in the church, you can tune in from the parking lot.
  • We will be practicing social distancing, which means that other than your family, you are asked to stay 6 feet from the next person. That is, next to you and to the front and back also. You may not be able to sit in your favorite pew. We ask your patience during this time.
  • We ask that you bring a mask to wear as this is the requirement for meetings at this time. If someone comes and does not have a mask, one will be provided. If you are unable to wear a mask the ushers will direct you to a special area in the sanctuary.
  • We will discontinue the greeting time.
  • The collection will be done last and it will not be passed through the congregation but will be on the table to put your offering in the plate as you leave.
  • We will have communion, but it will be in prepackaged containers (little cups with wafers on top) that are sealed and be given to you as you enter the sanctuary. You will stay in your seats for communion but we will do it together.
  • We ask that you please go directly to you seats and leave afterwards and not socialize in the hall. You will notice we have removed the coffee machine during this time. If you must please wear a mask and keep the 6 feet distance.
  • Rest assured that all things that you will come in contact will be safe. The bulletins are made with gloves on. The ushers will be wearing gloves and masks to pass them out. The church will be sanitized from week to week.
  • There will be gloves for you to wear while using the hymnal for singing and/or hand sanitizer in all of the pews to use after.
  • We will have live music provide by the talented Dale Johnson.

We realize that this may be too soon for some of the congregation. We have different sources of information which determines our feelings if it is safe. There are a lot of different opinions out there. Age and health factors are also a determining factor that differ from person to person. Above all, you know yourself best and if you feel it is not time for you to return, we wish you God’s blessing and we will be here to greet you when you do.

Until then, remember that there will still be online services, posted on FaceBook on Sunday morning and we invite you to join us there at Springdale United Methodist Church site.
